Belarus to Receive New Battery of Tor-M2 SAM

On 25 October, the Belarusian Defence Ministry and Almaz-Antey signed a contract for the delivery of the next battery of the Tor-M2 surface-to-air missile systems.

Our country will receive new weapons in the framework of the Treaty between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus on the development of military-technical cooperation dated 10 December 2009.

The first Tor-M2 batteries entered service with the 120th Air Defence Brigade, Air Force and Air Defence (AFAD) in 2011 and 2012. In early 2014, a Tor-M2 battalion consisting of three batteries was formed at 120th Air Defence Brigade. The system entered service with the 740th Air Defence Brigade at the end of last year. The new SAMs have significantly improved AFAD’s air defence capability.

The Tor-M2 SAM can effectively counter rotary- and fixed-wing aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, guided missiles and other precision weapons flying at medium, low and extremely low altitudes in severe air and jamming environments.

The Tor-M2’s distinctive features are high mobility, fast response time, high level of automation, effective engagement of a wide range of targets.

All the Tor-M2 systems that entered service with the Belarusian Armed Forces proved their combat effectiveness at the Belarusian and Russian training ranges.
