Iranian Navy unveils new projects

The Iranian Navy unveiled on Wednesday a number of projects, systems and equipment developed by the country’s experts.

The projects and systems were unveiled in a ceremony in Tehran on Wednesday in the presence of Deputy Chief Commander of the Army Brigadier General Mohammad Hossein Dadras and Commander of the Iranian Navy Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi on the occasion of the Navy Day in Iran (November 28), FNA said.

The projects, systems and equipment include ‘Mersad’ project dedicated to designing and building a comprehensive system to test-fire light subsurface torpedoes, digital autopilot system to guide, control and navigate torpedoes, auto fuel energy generation system for the combustion of torpedoes engines, ‘Damavand’ project focusing on designing unmanned remote-controlled boats equipped with different anti-electronic warfare, ‘Khalij-e Fars’ training warship which is the largest warship in West Asia, nanocovers for different types of equipment and vessels, Ra’ad system to test electronic, megatronic and radio parts of missiles, ‘Naqsh’ project dedicated to simulating war conditions and increase the skills of the naval combat units to implement different tactical scenarios during battle and ‘Makran 921’ tactical vehicle.

In relevant remarks on Tuesday, Deputy Commander of the Iranian Army for Coordination Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari announced that the country’s most state-of-the-art destroyer, ‘Sahand’, will be launched in the next Iranian year (to start on March 21, 2018).

“Sahand will join the Navy next year,” Rear Admiral Sayyari, Iran’s former Navy commander, was quoted as saying by the Iranian media.

He added that a new missile-launching warship named ‘Separ (Shield)’ will join the Navy on December 4.

Rear Admiral Sayyari also said that the Navy experts are now working on a new destroyer named ‘Shiraz’ which will be launched after Sahand.

Also, last Wednesday, New Commander of the Iranian Navy Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi announced the country’s plans to launch a new home-made missile-launching warship.

“The missile-launching warship named Separ will be launched in the Caspian Sea” on the occasion of the Navy Day in Iran (November 28), Rear Admiral Khanzadi told reporters in his first press conference after being appointed to the post in Tehran.

He also announced that a number of overhauled helicopters and vessels will join the Navy in the near future.
